Claude for government
“We're about using [Anthropic] technology the California way: responsibly, transparently, and in service of people. AI should not replace the human work of government; it should help our workers move faster, solve problems more effectively, and deliver better results for Californians.”
“This partnership with Anthropic is an important milestone in Rwanda’s AI journey. Our goal is to continue to design and deploy AI solutions that can be applied at a national level to strengthen education, advance health outcomes, and enhance governance with an emphasis on our context.”
“Albertans trust their government with sensitive information, and it is our responsibility to protect it. By using AI to find and fix vulnerabilities across our systems, we accomplished in hours what would have taken years. This is what responsible government looks like in the AI era, and the best is still ahead of us.”

Rapide
Using the attached district health reports and school enrollment data, identify the ten districts where cervical cancer screening rates and secondary school attendance for girls are both below the national median. Draft a brief for the Minister with the overlap, likely causes, and three joint interventions the two ministries could run together.

Turn department data into national programs
Join datasets across departments, see where health and education outcomes overlap, and draft briefs with interventions the departments can run together.
Modernize legacy technology
Update the COBOL backlog years ahead of plan. Claude Code reads legacy systems, documents unrecorded logic, writes tests, and moves modules to modern languages. Your engineers set the architecture and sign off on every merge. Best for agencies running decades-old benefit, tax, and case systems.
Fix vulnerabilities in mission systems
Find exploitable flaws before an attacker does. Claude scans mission codebases, ranks findings by how risky they are, and proposes fixes. Your security team approves every patch. Built for cyber commands and defense program offices.
Serve residents faster
Clear the backlog and answer residents the same day. A plain-language assistant handles questions on food assistance, health coverage, and housing support around the clock, and hands eligibility decisions and incomplete cases to a caseworker.
Build the next generation of government software
Ship agentic features into the products your organizations already use. Build on Claude to check applications against local code, draft decisions, and log every step for audit with a person reviewing before anything goes to the applicant.

Products and features
Claude for Government is Anthropic’s FedRAMP-High authorized product. It runs in the Claude Desktop app (Chat and Claude Code), connected to a dedicated government environment inside Palantir’s FedRAMP High boundary. It is available to U.S. federal, state, and local government agencies and to organizations that support government work, such as government contractors.
Government organizations can start using Claude for Government by submitting a request via the Contact Sales form (choose “Government & Public Sector” as your industry). Claude for Government is available to US federal, state, and local government agencies and qualifying public sector organizations.
To learn more or get started, see the Claude for Government administrator guide or contact our Sales team.
Claude Enterprise has robust enterprise-level security features that meet many standards of highly regulated industry and is appropriate for government uses that don’t require FedRAMP authorization.
Claude for Government is our FedRAMP-High offering. It includes admin-managed connectors (including Microsoft 365), web search, and skills, but it is not at full feature parity with Claude Enterprise. For example, there is no web based experience or mobile access.
Claude Code is now included in the Claude for Government Desktop app, and its sign-in and inference run through the FedRAMP High boundary.
Claude Cowork is now just Claude, so you don’t have to choose where to get work done. The update is available in Claude for Government. We hope you enjoy the simpler experience.
Read more about Claude Code and how Claude Cowork changed.
The Claude API can be used via Amazon Bedrock (in AWS GovCloud - FedRAMP High) and Google Vertex with Assured Workloads (FedRAMP-High). The Claude API from Anthropic (including Claude Platform on AWS) is not FedRAMP authorized today, so use Bedrock or Vertex when you need a FedRAMP environment.
For more information, see Claude in Amazon Bedrock: Approved for use in FedRAMP High and DoD IL4/5 workloads and Claude on Vertex AI.
Our Claude for Government application typically receives new Claude models shortly after their commercial release. Administrators choose which models each user can access. See Model availability in Claude for Government for the current list.
For Claude in Amazon Bedrock in AWS GovCloud, AWS authorizes each model separately. See AWS services in scope for FedRAMP for the current list.
Claude Enterprise includes SSO, domain capture, SCIM provisioning, role-based permissions, audit logs, custom data retention, the Compliance API, and an option for US-only inference. The Team plan includes SSO and domain capture but not SCIM or audit logs. Claude for Government has its own admin portal with SSO, SCIM, seat tiers, spend caps, and an audit log. Security documentation, including SOC 2 Type II reports and ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 certificates, is available on the Trust Portal. Accessibility Conformance Reports (VPATs) for the Claude web and mobile apps are available on request.
In March 2026, the Department of War (DoW, also referred to as the Department of Defense) designated Anthropic a supply chain risk. That designation applies only to the use of Claude as a direct part of DoW contracts and subcontracts. It does not apply to other federal agencies, to state or local governments, or to commercial use. For DoW contractors, it does not limit their use of Claude outside their covered DoW work.
Anthropic is challenging the designation in court. On August 27, 2026, a federal court in the Northern District of California ruled that one supply chain risk designation was unlawful. A separate designation is still being challenged in the D.C. Circuit. Microsoft, Google, and Amazon have each confirmed that Claude remains available to their customers for work outside the DoW.

FedRAMP and compliance
CUI (Controlled Unclassified Information) and FIPS 199 High Impact data are authorized in Claude for Government, which is FedRAMP High authorized.
For ITAR-controlled data, use Claude through Amazon Bedrock in AWS GovCloud (US), which supports DoD IL4/IL5 workloads. Claude for Government and Vertex AI are not IL5 environments.
For most other government agencies like State and Local handling PHI or PII, Anthropic offers a HIPAA-ready configuration for Enterprise and API customers, including the ability to sign a Business Associate Agreement (BAA).
You can learn more here:
- BAA details: Business Associate Agreements (BAA) for Commercial Customers

Claude for Government and Claude via Amazon Bedrock in AWS GovCloud and Google Vertex with Assured Workloads are all FedRAMP-High. Amazon Bedrock in AWS GovCloud is also approved for DoD IL4/IL5 workloads, and Bedrock in the AWS US East/West regions supports FedRAMP Moderate. Claude Enterprise and the Claude API from Anthropic are not FedRAMP authorized today. However, we are pursuing FedRAMP Moderate authorization for Claude Enterprise through the FedRAMP 20x program, and we’re listed as “in process” on the FedRAMP Marketplace. We don’t have a confirmed timeline to share yet.
FedRAMP and DoD Impact Levels are certifications for cloud services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS). AI models are software components, not cloud services. Claude models deploy within authorized environments, and customers maintain their compliance posture through the hosting platform.

Please submit a request for the documentation package directly to FedRAMP using this FedRAMP Package Access Request Form.
Claude for Government’s FedRAMP High authorization is listed on the FedRAMP Marketplace under Palantir Federal Cloud Service – Supporting Services, because Claude for Government runs on Palantir’s FedStart platform.
See How do I find Claude for Government in the FedRAMP Marketplace? and Why is Claude for Government listed under Palantir?
CUI data can be processed in a FedRAMP High environment via Claude for Government, Bedrock, or Vertex. For Claude Enterprise, a third-party NIST SP 800-171r3 attestation is available under NDA. It’s not a government authorization or a CMMC certification, so customers determine suitability: [Anthropic] 2026 NIST 800-171r3 Attestation Letter
Claude is available in the AWS Secret region (IL6) via Amazon Bedrock. Claude is also available through Amazon Bedrock in AWS Top Secret regions. For classified environments, work with your AWS account team.
No. Claude Enterprise and Claude Platform on AWS (the Claude API with AWS billing) are available on AWS Marketplace. Neither is FedRAMP authorized, and buying through AWS Marketplace doesn’t change a product’s authorization. Customers requiring FedRAMP compliance must use Claude for Government or access Claude models through FedRAMP-authorized CSPs (Bedrock GovCloud or Vertex Assured Workloads).
Claude Enterprise is not FedRAMP authorized, so agencies with criminal justice information (CJIS), federal tax information (IRS Publication 1075), or similarly restricted data typically use Claude for Government, or Claude through Amazon Bedrock in AWS GovCloud or Google Cloud Vertex AI with Assured Workloads, inside an environment their security team has approved.
